Leadership issues you experience in your work as a political Essay

Leadership issues you experience in your work as a governmental activist(democrat) - Essay ExampleUnlike formal organizations, policy-making activists are apparent to find it troublesome to exert any position origin, coercive power or even reward power. Nevertheless, political activists might exert referent power or practised power, but the fact is that considering the size and scope of the Democratic Party, it might take several years for a person to gain expert power. The point here is that drawing cards who are political activists find it difficult to retrieve a sustainable and influential source of power, in the absence of which they betray to emerge as strong leaders (Fiedler and Chemers 87). There are no doubts about the fact that leaders can only build their credibility and postulate respect through living by a code of conduct and ethics. However, the fact is that in common practice, mint differ in their personal definitions of right(a) and wrong. Even within the Demo cratic Party, there are different viewpoints on issues such as same sex marriage, civil unions of same sex couples, abortion, hostile policy issues, fiscal issues, and others. It is plausibly that people would perceive their viewpoint or political position as the ethical and moral one, and in a political party, which is as large as the Democratic Party, these differing viewpoints and ethical perceptions are likely to cause disputes and disappointments, and it is for the leader to intervene and ensure harmony and consensus. Important here to tune is that the job of a leader is not to suppress the opposing viewpoints but to learn something from those opposing viewpoints and subsequently incorporate them in the overall agenda or at least, acknowledge their presence (Yukl 45). In an alternative scenario, there are times when leaders in politics realize that a certain political position is contrary to the ethical and moral standards but it gathers fervent support due to its necessity or context. In those situations, it becomes the ethical and moral responsibility of the leader to ensure that the leader leads his or her people in the right direction (House et al. 14). Even when compared to the corporate world, politics is the name of making tough decisions, regardless of its consequences and reception. In order to gather support and command respect, leaders have to make popular decisions. However, political activists, while acting as leaders, are less likely to find any room for making decisions primarily to widen their support base, but they also have to take decisions that might directly hurt the interests of the pursuit or subordinates. The challenge for the leader in such a scenario is to persuade people about the inevitability of the decisions and to demand compromise with a promise of proximo favors and compliments. In terms of the managerial grid, leaders have to ensure that they demonstrate a high concern for task and an equally high concern for people as well (Yukl 45). Quite understandably, in situations when the leader has to ask his or her subordinates and followers for compromises, it depends extensively on the relationships of the leaders with his or her subordinates that define his or her winner in such ventures. Furthermore, credibility also plays a crucial role, as people would only give up their self-interests and viewpoints for a leader whom they can blindly trust. Therefore, my goal is to ensure that I could earn the

Critically evaluate the cognitive development theories of Piaget and Essay

Critically evaluate the cognitive development theories of Piaget and Vygotsky and discuss their relevancy to Social Work practice - Essay ExampleHe came up with the cognitive development theory where he showed two major aspects to his theory the motion of coming to know and the stages used to acquire the ability to know. In his book, Miller, (2002, p.32) stated that Piaget viewed knowledge as a process and that children have an active process of well-read their surrounding. As a biologist, he was interested in how a given organism adapts to its purlieu. Behaviour is controlled through mental organization where an individual uses some schemes to embody the piece and designate action. This adaptation is motivated by biological drive to obtain balance between the schemes and the environment. Piaget hypothesized that an infant is born with schemes that operate from abide. These schemes atomic number 18 reflexes which are used to adapt the environment and are later replaced by cons tructed schemes. He described two processes that are used by individual to adapt to the environment assimilation and accommodation. These processes are used throughout life as the person progressively adapts to the environment in a more complex way. Assimilation is a process of transforming the environment so that it can be suitable in the pre-existing cognitive structures. An example is where an infant uses a sucking schema that was highly-developed by sucking a small bottle when trying to suck a larger bottle. Accommodation on the other hand, is the process of changing the cognitive structures in order to accept anything from the environment. An example would be when the child wants to modify a sucking schema that was developed through sucking on a pacifier to one that could be thriving for sucking on a bottle. The two processes are simultaneously useful throughout life. Piaget proposes that there are quaternity distinct stages of mental representation that children pass through r ight from their infancy stage to the adult level of intelligence. The four stages are sensorimotor period, preoperation period, concrete operable stage and formal operational stage.Sensorimotor stage starts from birth to two years. It is the primary stage in cognitive development this is where infants create an understanding of the world by coordinating the sensory experience with physical actions. They gain knowledge from the world through the physical actions hence, progress from self-referent instinctual action at birth to the beginning of symbolic thought towards the stop of the stage. Piaget subdivided the sensorimotor stage into six sub-stages. Simple reflexes are a sub-stage where the infant coordinates the sensation and action through reflexive behaviour. It starts right from birth to the period when the infant is one month old. First habits and primary circular reactions phase is the second sub-stage (Bateson 2005, p 127). It starts from one month to four months after b irth. Other sub-stages include secondary circular reaction phase, coordination of secondary circular reaction phase, tertiary circular reactions and curiosity and internalization of the schemes. By the end of sensorimotor stage, the child acquires the sense of object permanence. The child understands that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be heard, seen or touched. Effect of Cultural Shock and Cultural Adjustment on International Essay

Effect of Cultural Shock and Cultural Adjustment on International Mobility - Essay ExampleThe crusade of people between and within countries has been noted to be on the rise especially with the attachd globalisation. In some countries, the number of unknowners could be exceptionally mellow such as in the Gulf countries where Furnham (2010) notes that foreign workers comprise about 75% of the total semi-permanent population. Business people, students, missionaries, volunteers and asylum seekers among other groups of people would become ephemeral or permanent sojourning expatriates in foreign countries more often. These people face a myriad of challenges when in a new environment. In the context of this paper, digest would be on the educational sector and how cultural shock affects international mobility. Most universities have more than a third of the students classified as foreign or international, an observation that continues to slay prominence even in other lower institutio ns of learning (Akhtar & Bo 2010). Various push and pull factors inform on the increase in migrations leisure, to proselytise or to trade, among others. Some move so as to escape the difficult conditions back in their homelands whereas others would be attracted to specific places. They could face persecution callable to their political or religious stands and therefore seek asylum or refuge. Others would move due to employment opportunities as well paying jobs attract them or education, attracted by the superior education systems. Furnham (2010) observed that American universities, for instance, have over half a million of the international students. The US is said to offer the superior opportunity for higher education for international students globally.... Cultural Shock With the world continuously shrinking due to globalisation, researchers have been keen to study the characteristics of expatriates who succeed in foreign countries. Analysing various research studies tackling th is issue, Furnham found out that majority of the researchers concur on the importance of social skills and uses the term cultural intelligence to refer to the intermingle of social and emotional intelligence, reflecting sensitivity to and ability to manage peoples beliefs, behaviours and motivation in culturally diverse settings (2010, p. 28). The social identity theory explains bingles social self which borrows from being a member of a group. Further, the social identity concept argues on a combination of sensations knowledge of being a member of a social group and the associated value or emotional component (Terry et al. 2006). But it has been noted that most expatriates relegate in their assignments in foreign countries because of cultural differences (Yue & Le 2012). As such, those who develop the ability to quickly adjust and acquire intercultural competencies would have a competitive advantage. Those who take long in cultural shock could be greatly disadvantaged. Coined by the anthropologist Kalervo Oberg in 1960, the term cultural shock refers to an affective disturbance resulting from an interaction of ones conceptualisations and realities. This type of hazard is known to reduce the efficiency of information workforces, effectiveness, service, excellence, product value, and excellence of earnings at the end. Thus, risk management is a subject or process that needs all manner of care to be successful. Literature review From organizational perspective, risks o verdress most often when businesses pursue opportunities in face of uncertainties, while being compelled by capabilities and cost. In most cases, a challenge comes when it comes to the process of finding a position based on the two dimensions, as it represents in essence itself a risk profile that may be appropriate for the initiative pleasing to both internal and external stakeholders of the business in question. Studies affirm that, hazard and hazard administration are premeditated in nature. Regarding, information and technology studies lay down that, software projects have been recognized to be high-risk ventures, which are prone to many failures. Some studies argue that there are mainly two classes of risks generic risks that are common to all projects, and project specific risks. In many cases, virtually of these hazards are easy to recognize and regulate or accomplish. However, in some cases, other risks are less obvious and thus very difficult to make predictions on their likelihood to occur and the impact they may cause at that time (Levine 2004, p. 32). The complication and difficulty in predictions comes because of numerous project proportions structure, size, complexity, composition, novelty, long planning, and execution horizons. All these have a common influence on the baseborn of the scheme at the end hus, any indeterminate discrepancy in this has fiscal implications. Therefore, risk management in information technology, especially software

The financial feasibility of a capital expenditure. Pevensey Plc Essay

The financial feasibility of a capital expenditure. Pevensey Plc - Essay utilizationThe head of the production department has approved all the short listed machines and now the decision rests with the financial control unit in order to evaluate the financial feasibility of the purchasing decision. Future property flows have been forecasted and argon presented as net currency inflows. The cash outflows comprises of expected repair and maintenance expenditure all over the useful life of the asset. Whereas, the cash inflows includes the expected total revenue generated by the machines in the form of sale of the products manufactured by the machine. All the projected cash flows include the impact of expected inflation. The capital expenditure pertaining to the purchase of machine has been decided to be funded through internally generated funds. Therefore, keeping into consideration the limited get along of the funds, the directors of the company must make prudent coronation decisi on so to achieve the most lucrative and appropriate results. The method used in the investment approximation is determining the Net Present Value (NPV) of each proposal. According to this method, the future expected cash flow, over the clock span of the project, are send awayed found on the expected discount rate in the economy. As per the treasury department of the company, the cost of capital of the company is 9%, which is used as the discount rate in calculating the NPV of each project. The expected cash flow from each year is multiplied by the discount factor to arrive at the present value at year 0 i.e. at the time of making of the capital expenditure. An investment whose NPV is corroborative is considered to be a rewarding one, whereas an entity does non venture on an investment where the NPV of the cumulative cash flows is negative. Where the management has to rank the investments, with the objective of giving priority to the most rewarding ones, the investment with the highest NPV must be ranked first. Calculating Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is another method extensively used in the investment appraisals. IRR is a rate where the cost of investment, cash outflow, is equal to the cash inflows. The proposal with the highest IRR is considered to be the most rewarding one. Payback period is another method utilized in investment appraisal which calculates the time taken by the investment to generate enough cash inflows to recover the initial cost of the investment. Investment appraisal through NPV method and IRR method are both very useful in order to financially attractive prospective of any investment decision. A good financial analysis is found on the trade off between these two methods. However, practically the IRR method is used widely in investment appraisal decision. The prime reason laughingstock selecting the IRR method of appraisal is it is comparatively straight forward and can be used without having a prior experience in capital budgetin g. NPV method has indisputable drawbacks and limitations. Different projects must be assessed at various discount rates because the risk for each project is generally different. The reliability of the NPV based investment appraisal can be as reliable as the discount rate itself. However, in practice, it is very unrealistic to determine different discount rate for different investment proposals. Whereas, IRR uses a single discount rate to evaluate every investment, due to which it is used extensively among the financial analysts. With certain disadvantages, the NPV method comes with several attributes which makes it shining to the IRR method. IRR method of appraisal is for evaluating the financial result of an investment over a short period of time. Moreover, IRR is also ineffective for investments proposals which are a mixture of positive and negative cash flow. For these

In a healthy individual the pancreas produces insulin which helps to regulate the amount of sugar that remains in the blood stream. In the body of someone with diabetes there is not enough insulin in the blood stream to break down glucose and require energy. There are two types of Diabetes known simply as Type 1 and Type 2. In Type 1 diabetes the body is unable to create insulin on its own and is diagnosed generally during youth mainly during the teenage years. It is very comical as it is an inherited trait and only 5-10% of all people who suffer from diabetes fall into the Type 1 category. With type 2 diabetes, the illness and symptoms tend to develop gradually. This is because in type 2 diabetes you still make insulin (unlike type 1 diabetes). However, you develop diabetes b ecause you do not make enough insulin for your bodys needs, or the cells in your body do not use insulin properly. This is called insulin resistance. The cells in your body become resistant to normal levels of insulin. This means that you need more insulin than you normally make to keep the blood glucose level down, or a combination of the above two reasons. Diabetes is associated with short term problems such as hypoglycaemia which can lead to death and many long term health issues which can develop as a result of the illness. The risk of these potential health problems can be reduced through with(predicate) lifestyle and diet management. Synthetic Insulin is used in the treatment of type 1diabetes in a carefully planned insulin therapy programme to replace the insulin that has not been produced by the pancreas. Other areas of assessment may include perception, cognition, memory, attention, and language abilities.IQ or Intelligence Quotient is an attempt to measure intelligence using standardized tests. According to the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (2006) it is often used to classify the level of rational impairment in someone with learning disabilities. Below 20 would be classed as a profound learning disability 25 to 35, Severe 35 to 50, Moderate and 55 to 70, Mild.Errors in fetal development. Problems during pregnancy. It is a physical condition that affects the movement and control of a body. It is caused by a lack of development in part of the brain during pregnancy or childhood. The severities of problems are dependent on which part of the brain is affected (Mencap, 2010).When talking about people with LD, dual diagnosis refers to the comorbidity of learning disabilities and mental health problems. People with LD often suffer with depression or anxiety. It is important for nurses to be aware of the common conditions in LD because they can easily be missed if they are not actively looked for. It can be much more difficult for someone with LD to communicate a problem with their health and also, symptoms can be missed due to diagnostic overshadowing which means that secondary illnesses are missed because the symptoms are mistaken to be related to the primary disorder. Most people with LD live at home with help from familie s and day care services.Care for people with LD is often provided by family members with support from a range of healthcare workers and professionals such as nurses, psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists and specialist behavioral therapists healthcare assistants and day workers.Direct payments are do by councils to people receiving social care services, instead of the council providing the service directly (direct.gov.uk).LD nurses work in a variety of setting which include the home, family, adult development, education for young people and community/residential settings (NHS Careers Website).Social Role Valorisation is the name given to a concept formulated by Wolf Wolfensberger, Ph.D in 1983 which follows the principle of normalisation. It helps people with disabilities plan and organise their future in a more ordinary way. Fundamentally the person is at the centre and family members and friends are made full partners in the plan. The plan should reflect what is important to the person and the capacities that they have. It should also help a person to make a treasured contribution to society.People with learning LD have been referred to as patients, clients and service users. Service user is the current term used within healthcare but the term client is still used by some and probably depends on who you are talking to.The four principles of the 2001 white paper valuing people are right, independence, cream and inclusion. Right means that people with learning disabilities should have the same rights and choices as everybody else. Independence means the people with LD should be helped to live lives that are as fencesitter as possible. Choice means that people with LD should be empowered to have choice in the treatment they receive and the lives that they lead. Inclusion means that people with LD should be included in society, have access to services and helped to gain valued social roles within society. One of the issues with LD nursing is mental health. People with LD often also suffer with mental health problems. There is a distinct difference between a person having a mental illness and a learning disability,
